Seventies and jet set glam is what Peter Dundas does best ...and he didn't miss a beat for Spring 2011 Emilio Pucci collection.
The hippie trail is becoming a well-trodden path at Milan Fashion Week, and surfaced again for Emilio Pucci's Spring 2011 collection by Peter Dundas.
The breezy island life of Ibiza, Mykonos and Goa was the inspiration for this show, as the models strutted around in over-the-knee lace-up boots, floaty cutaway floor-grazing dresses, split open in front. The prints were inspired by the blues and whites of Greek Cycladic architecture, and many of the fabrics - cottons, silks and liquid jerseys - had been sent to India to be bleached, re-dyed and batik-ed to give a more lived-in, sun-and-sea-drenched appearance. The swimwear carried through the same psychedelic themes.
And for accessories? Woven hippie bags, mirror-worked kaftans and bandanas, and thonged and fringed, hipster jeans and leather vests, all recalled the carefree days of the 1970s.
Kylie Minogue arrived 45 minutes fashionably late, in high heels and a gold, off-the-shoulder Pucci mini-dress from the Fall 2010 collection, to make her front row seat next to Jada Pinkett-Smith, just in time for the start.
Dundas has been criticised for his 'narrow' focus. He seemed to be speaking primarily to the starlet set (and their stylists) with whom he’s found great favor, rather than to chic everyday women. Nonetheless, Jada and Kylie had one word for it: "LOVE." Oh how very 1970s.
