The final day of Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week left a feeling of disappointment in the air, yet retro inspired swimwear offered a sigh of relief.
With Madrid Fashion week coming to a close, fashion critics have been left a little disappointed by the originality and flair of the spring summer 2011 collections, the designers have decided to err on the side of safety and lower the sartorial bar on creativity. The runway offering was eclectic but just about everybody referenced the Seventies with high-waisted flared pants, a plethora of ladylike dresses, novelty knits, all-in-one rompers and jumpsuits, girlish beach separates, and swimwear with a retro feel, according to wwd.com.
A few designers pushed the boundaries, and highlights this year included Andres Sardá, Sita Murt and TCN. Lingerie and swimwear designer Andres Sardá opted for high-rise silhouettes, cutouts and garter belts while Barcelona-based designer Sita Murt kicked off with cable-stitched mini-shorts followed by cardigans and rompers in a pastel colour palette. TCN (see right) referenced Brigitte Bardot in a crowd-pleasing collection full of bikinis, bandeau tops and retro-styled swimwear in sophisticated florals.
