The bra top transforms from underwear to this season's star piece according to Vogue.

Your biggest decision this season according to Vogue...to brave or not to brave the bra top? On the catwalk, it took many guises - from a sleek evening look worn with high waisted trousers at Richard Nicoll, to the lingerie-based styles at Dior and the sportswear pieces inspired at Balenciaga. It is not the first time the bra top has been on show. Nicoll's combination recalled the forties beachwear fashion for capri pants and bra tops, and long-line bras like those that Christian Dior created. It was Madonna who first made them outerwear, donning a 50s style Jean Gaultier basque for her 1990 Blond Ambition tour. 

But there are ways to translate this trend to real life . According to Karen Bonser, head of design at Topshop, says she was inspired to give bra tops a grungy edge and make them less boudoir like in the process. The idea is to make them part of an outfit, not just a sultry item. Geoffrey Finch, creative director of Antipodium, says "length is crucial. Only a glimpse, at the most slender part should be shown".
