The pre-fall season continues to grow, playing a particularly important commercial role for many designers and houses. Here we take a peak at some of the key trends.

Calvin Klein

Even minimalists can have a hippie streak. Or so says Francisco Costa, whose pre-fall collection (inspired by a Richard Avedon shoot with Anjelica Huston from the 1960s) included multiple takes on the tunic (as a mini-shift, or over pants), and a long, languid dress. There were leather tunics, cozy knits and some amazing shearlings that were more modern than rustic

Chanel 

Karl transformed the iconic Rue Cambon store into a living room straight from the Ottoman Empire. Bronze sequins adorned the walls and attendees sat on embroidered pillows. This season's theme was dubbed, "Paris-Byzance". A collection based on muted color, rich ornamentation and regal-yet-forgiving silhouettes. An undercurrent of rock ’n’ roll hedonism thrust the look into the here and now — and for the finale, the show eased into a psychedelic, rich-hippie groove.

Diane von Furstenberg

Inspired by the 70s, classic American sportswear geometric prints, DVF’s signature wraps, and colorblocking were all on show for Diane von Furstenberg's Pre-Fall collection. 

Michael Kors

Sixties via the nineties -an architectural, athletic silhouette of reefer coats, tux pants, and graphic sweaters in natural fabrics, worn with kitten heel slingbacks and belted utility bags. “And they’re clothes that can be whatever season you want them to be".

A collection for the 'romantic rebel who likes mixing her denim pieces with a vintage-y Victorian coat' according to wwd. Childish touches of charming cats appearing as motifs on knit cardigans and printed on dresses. Duffle coats in camel wool were mixed with flannel shorts and a Lurex Sixties pop motif on a long-sleeve dress gave a little naughty vibe to the schoolgirl theme.
