Chiffons, silks and ruffles dominated Valentino's RTW 2010 show.
With Valentino Garavanni firmly on the front row and design duo Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri at the helm, Valentino has taken a more polished, tailored and streamlined turn of late. But judging by the amount of ruffles that hit the catwalk yesterday the pair thankfully hasn’t lost sight of the label’s romantic sensibilities.
There were nude jackets and coats with extravagantly ruffled fronts, chic white skirts with subtle folds, ruffled lace inserts, cascades of chiffon and sleek leather waves. All were interspersed with incredibly wearable slim tailored trousers, classic wool coats and pretty chiffon blouses that stopped the effect from being too overwhelming. And naturally there were some uber-romantic, show-stopping gowns destined for the red carpet – the beautifully draped blush and black lace dress and the nude tiered gown are sure to be hits with the A-list.
What really got the fashion crowd going though were the shoes. Patent kitten heels – set to be the shape of the season – in blush and nude picked out in studs. The waiting list starts here.
