In the past few seasons the fashion world has seen a fair amount of neon brights and colour blocking. But in 2012, Fashion Week is showing us that pastels are the new refreshing palette cleansers.
Light, airy shades of yellow, green, pink, spearmint and glacier blue appeared on the runways of Spring 2012 in various techniques of colorblocking and styling against prints or in monochrome manners. The fresh mix of pastels appeared just in time to give fashion a color makeover. The girly, feminine palette proved to be flirty, bold and very versatile in creating daytime or night time looks as these refreshing hues also appeared in footwear, handbags and accessories.
The soft hues weren’t just for daytime, as proven by Jenny Packham. The designer created elegant, flowing chiffon gowns with an assortment of lime, tangerine, lemon and light blues. The color was enhanced with degradé effects and with appliqués of sequins in floral arrangements on Grecian-style dresses.
Opt for slightly washed-out pastels such as bitter lemon and dusty pink....and if you can't decide which of spring's soft tones suits you best, then combine a mix of pastels in colour-block layers or delicate ombre washes.
