New York Fashion Week kicked-off the global round of designer catwalk shows for spring/summer 2011 yesterday with a stella collection by designers such as Jason Wu, Max Azaria and Rag & Bone.
Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion week Spring Summer 2011 kicked off on Thursday at Lincoln Centre Complex, promising to be full of famous faces and stylish surprises.
Opening day included a fittingly global-inspired collection by Christiano Siriano, with leopard-print and African references, and softly-softly military looks from the boys at Ruffian - Claude Morais and Brian Wolk.
Even the most die-hard supporters of wearable ready-to-wear are allowed to experiment, just as Rag & Bone's Marcus Wainwright and David Neville did for spring. They collaborated with lingerie designer Jean Yu on harness-like bras that were visible throughout (see right), adding a definite subversive undertone.
The most notable trends evident in the first two days included: Transparency and sheer tops, Fluid lines and longer lengths, Negligee-like laciness and soft femininity, Pale colors — white, almond, a minty blue and a butter yellow.
There are big names and fresh talent to watch including Derek Lam, Preen, Thakoon and William Tempest and we can't wait to see what marvels will grace the catwalk at Badgley Mischka, Herve Leger, Donna Karan, Halston and Marc Jacobs.
