For a long time now, women have been treating the hat as a pure fashion accessory. For the last two summers, the fedora has been the must have style, and while a fedora can look cool (really?), in the sun, it's pretty useless. What we need is a good wide brim sun hat! Celebs have been stepping out in floppier styles — be it for deflecting paparazzi (Mary-Kate Olsen and a pre-matrimonial Chelsea Clinton), actual sun protection (Heather Graham) or creating a character (Blake Lively on the set of “Gossip Girl”).

If Trina Turk's sun hats for summer 2011, shown at Miami's recent swimwear show are anything to go by, we say “Hats off"...these are going to be huge!
