Currently available up to a size 16, Marc Jacobs CEO, Robert Duffy, is considering introducing a plus-size line to the Jacobs portfolio.
While pencil thin women still dominate the catwalks (see right), it's official, the world's population is "growing in size". We've seen it in our bra sizes with 40 per cent of Australian women wearing a DD or larger cup - obesity and the contraceptive pill are to blame. In fact, modern breasts are getting so large that some bra companies have introduced cup sizes as high as K, The Sunday Telegraph reports.
Well it seems Robert Duffy, CEO of Marc Jacobs, has got wind of this and according to the New York Magazine, Duffy proposed to launch a Jacobs range for women of size 18 or over.
"Your right. We gotta do larger sizes. I'm with you," he tweeted. "As soon as I get back to NY. I'm on it! It will take me about a year. But stay with us. Problem solving is a big part of our job." The announcement came as Duffy revealed his own frustrations on buying clothes.
News that a high profile designer is to begin tailoring clothes for larger sizes will no doubt reignite the ongoing plus-size debate and perhaps provide some hope that the plus size woman can finally enjoy the experience of shopping for designer labels like the rest of us.
Earlier this month US department store Saks announced it would be adding plus size couture to its clothing selection.
